How to get back to your fitness routine

It’s tempting to skip some days after being away. Seems like there’s so much to get caught up on at work or home. Next this you know, it’s been a week and still haven’t gotten in a workout. And, you might be a little rusty to on that first day back, but remember that the sooner you get back into the swing of your routine the better. You can do it! If you need a little help we’re here and ready to help at 3D Fitness in Vancouver.

Vancouver Personal Fitness Trainer 5-Step Vacation Recovery Plan

Take these simple steps to recover and get back to your fitness goals after vacation:

Step #1 Re-Focus

Your vacation is over. Time to get back on track. To reach your fitness goals, it’s best to treat your vacation lifestyle as the exception, not the rule. Don’t beat yourself up for letting loose while you were away. Dust yourself off and remember your goals to get back on your fitness path. You can always rely on an accountability partner if you need one when you work with a personal trainer

Step #2 Hydrate

Travel days can often result in dehydration and water retention. Drinking lots of water is one great solution.

Go for a tall glass of water when you wake up, and then drink water throughout the day. Just plain water does wonders.

Avoid adding artificial sweeteners or stimulants to your water – these will just make it harder for you to stay hydrated. Desire some flavour? Add sliced fresh fruit, herbs or vegetables to your water, just like at the spa.

Step #3 Cleanse and Reset

On your return home and to a sustainable routine, it’s important to eat whole, real foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. These nutrient-rich foods will help to restore balance and control cravings.

Avoid processed and packaged foods for the next few days, which includes snacks, deli meats, dairy products, baked goods, and alcohol.

A quick and easy stir fry is a great way to warm up to your kitchen and healthy and flavorful home cooking

Step #4 Rest

Ever go on a vacation and somehow comb back feeling a bit more exhausted than before? Over the next few days, make sure to catch up on some sleep. When we don’t get enough sleep, it’s harder to make healthy choices and get back into our workout routines. Aim for 8 hours of sleep each night and allow for some adjustment time.

Step #5 Exercise

It’s time to get back into shape and sweat out some of those vacation indulgences, right? Lace up your athletic shoes and put on your favourite gym clothes. Ease into your first workout, nice and slow. Take time to warm up and stretch your muscles before powering up to a solid 30-minute routine.
