A lot can happen in one year.
One year can bring about enough change for a lifetime.
- you can study something you love and learn to be great at it
- you can learn from failures and turn them into success
- you can laugh at the things that used to make you cry
- you can change your body and your health
There is one Universal truth about change, that (to me) seems the simplest:
The only way to realize change in your life is by making choices.
Have you been considering making a huge shift in your health or fitness level?
Are you ready to seek, find, and commit to your path?
If so, here are a few pieces of advice to help get you started…
Create a vision of how you’ll look, feel and live 1 year from today.
Whether your goals are to feel better, have more energy, lose 20 lbs or 100 lbs, climb a mountain, run a marathon, move better, or maybe even to gain weight! Visualize it and put in on paper. If you’re happy with where you’re at right now (and that is perfectly ok) then you’re on the right track. If, however, your current condition doesn’t match your ideal reality… what are you waiting for? It’s time to make a change. Think of everything that can happen in one year if you just take the first step today.
Create your short-term strategy.
All great transformations began with one tiny step. What will yours be? Here are a few steps you can take right now to push you in the right direction:
- try adding healthier foods to your diet before you start eliminating the bad ones
- Educate yourself on the topic at hand (you can download our Free e-book “The 12 Laws of Fat Burning” here).
- Find an activity you love, and do a lot of it!
- Seek out people who will encourage and inspire you to keep going.
- Ask a professional for help.
Find a mentor who will inspire and support you.
One of the hardest aspects of making a huge life change is shifting the way others see you AND the way you see yourself. One reason a lot of people have a hard time reaching their goals is that they put that fit person with the so called perfect body, up on a pedestal. And they see themselves as too flawed, too weak, too lazy, too unmotivated, too far gone, too uneducated to be one of those ‘god-like beings’. Sure, those types inspire us; but we don’t really believe we can actually be like them.
Find a mentor who doesn’t buy that story. Find someone who sees the fit, healthy, committed powerful person in you even if you don’t yet see it in yourself. Someone who cheers your little victories and nudges you back on track when you start to veer off. Someone who will encourage and (sometimes forcefully) pull the new you out of your old (former self) shell. Working with someone like this will give you zero opportunity to throw in the towel, no matter how long it takes.
Cut the crap.
I’m going to be honest here. There are way too many people who say they want change but aren’t willing to do the work to get it. They search for fad diets, magic wraps, appetite suppressants, or gimmicky weight loss products and solutions that you and I both know are complete bullshit.
There are things you’re going to have to give up. Period. End of story. Accept it. The sooner you learn this the sooner you can move on with the business at hand instead of wasting your time trying to find short cuts that do more harm to your body (and wallet) than good.
Cutting out junk, learning how to exercise for your goals, investing in yourself, and working with a pro are all amazing steps to take, but they don’t necessarily equal success. Think about what you can and can’t live without. I know people who think the sound of regular exercise and healthy eating sound like complete hell. They would feel acute suffering if they had to go a whole week without pizza. If you’re one of those people, you may not be ready to make a change. It’s no fun getting healthy if you’re crying over pizza-less nights all the time.
Ignore the opposition.
I don’t care if the opposition is wearing a mask that looks like your best friend or your spouse that says they’re doing it because, “they love you.” Ignore them. Only very few people are going to encourage you to change your status quo. Get uncomfortable. Ruffle some feathers. Make a bold move. Usually, they won’t encourage you because they themselves might not be ready for change. And that’s totally fine! Some of the opposition will be people who do truly care for you and have your best interest at heart. Accept their concern but keep it moving. If they really care, they’ll be there to comfort you when you screw up as well as to cheer for you when you begin to gain momentum on your goal-chasing.
Do not give up… ever.
Don’t do it. Once you’ve started, just don’t look back. Messed up? Get back on track. Keep moving forward. Things won’t always be smooth. You’ll screw up, guaranteed. It won’t be easy… BUT it definitely gets easier. You’ll get the hang of the new you. You’ll find your groove. And when you do, then comes the momentum! As if the once-imagined future you is pulling you forward to meet it. And when you feel that, you’ll begin to know that it’s really happening. It might take you until your last breath to get there but even then… won’t it have been worth it?
A lot can happen in 1 year.
1 year = 365 days of opportunity.
What will you do them?
